Ever walked and thought you could sneak out a small silent fart, well imagine you did, but the smell is still locked up in your underpants until you shake or take the next step, then anyone next to you gets to smell the lovely room parfum as well. Well that's what it was like when I visited Canberra Airport recently, but worse it was the dreaded Perio Smell that all Dental Nurses know about.
Yes that's right, it's like a bad fart but worse, it's from the other end. Not that breaking wind is not bad by any stretch on the imagination, but when the same smell comes from your mouth, well it might be time to do something about it.
Do you tell someone that they have worse than just bad breath, or do you just stand 10 paces back and hope you can escape in time?
I'm the sort of person that will tell you when your fly / zipper is down, but with bad breath, that's a different story. I would normally say something along the lines of 'when was your last dental clean?'. Then if they respond without putting up a wall, then I whisper in their ear that their breath smells and they should seek a dental check up, but I couldn't tell almost everyone I went passed in the airport - especially when we got to Sydney.
Well, if you floss twice a day, brush twice a day, and get regular cleans every 6 months from your dentist, then PERIO BREATH WON'T BE YOU, but just to be sure, check when your last dental clean was and get to the phone already to make your appointment. It could save your life, marriage, friendship and your own self-esteem.
Are you all blowing into the palm of your hand and smelling your own breath now, ps some mouthwashes really won't help, but if you have a serious problem a dentist can.
Happy flossing everyone!!!!
